Super Tanker Restaurant @ Kota Kinabalu, Sabah

After another long hiatus of food postings as dissertation work was killing me (sorry!). Finally, I had some time to sit down and write some posts. In this posts, features a very long standing chinese restaurant that is well known among Kota Kinabalu locals for good local chinese seafood at reasonable prices. Super Tanker is a great non-halal restaurant which is located at Jalan Bundusan, Penampang.

Fish Maw Soup
Initially, we started we some fish maw soup which does not much fish maw in their broth. The broth was a little disappointing to us as it was empowered by the excess salt and black pepper that envelops the fish maw freshness. However, the broth was clear and thin indicating the absence of flour used in thickening soups at common restaurants.

Steamed & Fried Cod Fish
This dual cod fish is certainly appealing as it is served in steamed and fried that has strong flavours in every bite. The steamed cod fish tasted better than the fried fish as the taste has been preserved perfectly. Usually this dish is quite expensive in other restaurants but Super Tanker does an excellent job in presenting this dish at a reasonable price!

Sesame Salad Prawn
The shell-less prawn drenched in salad sauce was certainly fresh and sweet that brings out the local seafood goodness of Sabah. The portion served was quite generous and tasted really luscious in each bite.

Belacan Fried Beans
Most of the time, local vegetables are used here just like in their belacan fried beans. It was not so spicy but strong in the belacan essence in this dish.

Signature Pork Ribs (RM 9.00 each)
Nothing is ever complete without trying their signature pork ribs! Priced at RM 9.00 each, each piece is enough for one portion but do bear in mind to order in advance as walk-in customers often get disappointed when this dish is sold out early. With a good proportion of meat and fats and delicous sauce, the meat tasted excellent with your rice.

Crispy Roasted Pei Pa Duck with Fried Mantou
This dish offers crispy roasted duck served with pei pa sauce and fried mantou for you to dipped in. However, taste wise it rated average for us. Nothing much to rave about.

Fried Durian Rolls
As you finish your dinner in Super Tanker, usually you will be served with their signature pandan pudding which is to die for (sorry no pics!). Unfortunately, all was given out earlier to customers. Then we opted to order their fried durian rolls which is really good as the rich durian content mixed with ice cream melted instantly when placed in your mouth. A recommended dessert!

Newly Renovated Super Tanker
For 7 pax, the total amount bill brings up to RM 210 which is really a deal as we have consumed lots of quality seafood and meat dishes. For tourists who wants to visit here, malaysiacuisine.com advise to book a table in advance as this place usually gets booked out on a daily basis especially on weekends.
