The CHUB's Grill @ Karamunsing Capital, Kota Kinabalu

The CHUB's Grill in Kota Kinabalu brings a variety of western delicacies mainly emphasizing on their BBQ goodness. As I arrived here, the place was fully packed mostly consisting of local patrons. It took us a while get seated as manpower was limited, and service was slow as our food was served nearly an hour later. In addition, I was a little disappointed as most items in the menu were not available (pasta, lamb shank, etc) as we have to re decide our meal dishes over and over again. Luckily, their loss is compensated with their uniquely luscious food platters.

Pork Chop w. Shichimi Chips, Garden Salad, Signature Rice (RM 25.80)
We started off with a pork chop platter that was grilled just perfectly as the sliced pork meat tasted succulent & juicy with their special sauce. On the other hand, their side dishes was a great accompaniment  a signature red bean based rice, fries garnished with shichimi (Japan's seven flavour chili pepper), and a simple garden salad tossed in their special sauce.

Start off with any of their BBQ delicacies with an optional choice of side dishes to choose from (RM 5.90 for 2 sides/RM 6.90 for 3 sides) :

  • Garden salad
  • Shichimi chips
  • Potato wedges
  • Mashed potatoes
  • Garlic toast
  • Coleslaw
  • Signature rice
  • Macaroni & cheese
  • Potato salad
  • Baked potato

Lamb Shoulder w. Shichimi Chips, Garden Salad, Baked Potato (RM 24.80)
Next, a bone lamb shoulder permeating a succulent grilled lamb that was not too dry and tender to bite in. Additionaly, it goes well with our side dishes.

Pork Belly w. Shichimi Chips & Coleslaw (RM 25.80)
When it comes to pork belly, I am very particular as I have tried many of these in different food genre. These gorgeous pork belly was simply divine to bite in dipped chili sauce as it was not too oily and full of meat goodness. However, the skin of the pork belly was overcooked as it was  rubbery & hard to chew eventually us giving up.

Pork Belly (RM 19.90)

Bottomless Lemon Tea/Citrus (RM 3.90), Fruity Refreshing (RM 4.90)
The drinks here are still cheap compared to KL prices. Bottomless drinks for about RM 4 is really cheap as free refills are avalaible!

The Chub's Grill
Overall, the food was great as I am still looking forward to try their other delicacies. An increase in manpower and speed would be gladly appreciated in this place as customers tend to get frustrated waiting for their meal.
