Travel & Food Trip in Georgetown @ Penang Island

After a short vacation to the wonderful historical city of Georgetown on the Penang island, I was amazed with their extensive food culture which covers alot of local Malaysian delights. Its a good place  as food is cheap, places are easier to venture upon and walk-friendly destinations to visit. Here is a short food hunting summary I gathered. Enjoy :D !

Gurney Drive
Gurney Drive is one of the local attractions and has a superb sea view promenade. Here, you can find many food stalls accumulating in an open air food court where you can find almost anything ! Prices here are more expensive than other places as it is a tourist hotspot.

Penang Assam Laksa
Nothing is ever complete without trying Penang's famous assam laksa which uses mackerel fish broth and tamarind which gives a delicious rich sour taste and then finally, garnished with loads of spices such as lemongrass, leeks, sliced pineapples, chilis and many more. It was not that great here in Gurney Drive, but I do recommend one assam laksa in Joo Hooi coffe shop which you can find below this post!

Fried Chicken Skin and etc..
I was fascinated to find some sinful delicaicies such as fried chicken skin which was good but guilty at the same time :P !

Penang Fried Oyster
The penang fried oyster was served cold to us, which it didnt potray well its rich oyster flavours.

Assam Honey Air Tebu
A superb refreshing drink which I really loved !

Sotong Bakar
Although I'm a big fan of sotong bakar, this one tasted like it was over burnt as it has a unpleasant aftertaste of burnt essence.

Jam ! Jam ! Jam !

Gurney Drive ( Polluted eh?)
The view was not fascinating as it was polluted :(.

Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion
Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion is located at 14 Leith Street, 10200 George Town, Penang, Malaysia. The mansion's indigo-blue outer wall makes it a very distinct building in the area. As the tour didn't allow pictures to be taken inside the, Cheong Fatt Tze mansion holds alot of historical values of the late Cheong Fatt Tze himself. Now it is a part hotel and banquet hall which gives a classy vibe to it.

Penang Char Kuey Teow with Duck Egg
As we went nearby for lunch, I got to try penang's famous char kuey teow with a modern twist. Fried with duck egg, the texture and taste of the kuey teow itself was grainy and rough which gives it a delicous tasting flavour. I love it so much ! Now, why cant we find this in KL?

Bah Kut Teh
Nothing special about this.

Famous Penang Laksa Stall
After looking at vkeong.com suggestion to try Joo Hooi Coffee Shop as one of Penang's best assam laksa was found here. It was fully packed on lunch time and aftet eating 2 meals before, I decided to share this with my friends on the superb assam laksa I was about to try.

Penang Assam Laksa
It was heaven, the broth, the taste, the sourness was blended perfectly and I love every bit of it maybe because it was not so spicy(I hate spicy food lol). It was really rich in fish essence and every bit of it was delicicous !

warning!
You will find this sign in most small coffee shops around Georgetown as you must order a drink when sitting down at their coffee shop. Otherwise, it will be a 40 cent penalty charge! What!!??
