If you are ever visiting Kota Kinabalu, do stop by a classic comeback of the famous Hainanese Chicken Rice from Wishbone Cafe @ Gaya Street. This classic chicken rice was very popular in my younger days with a heavy price of RM 20++ in the exclusive Wishbone Cafe ! Now, they have opened an open air Wishbone cafe which serves their signature dish at a much economical price ! Apart from their signature chicken rice, they alse serve a variety of local flavours too.
This open air place serves their signature chicken rice which is cooked without any addition of MSG and obtained freshly from their own local Wishbone farm. Their cooking are base on C.H.E.F (see next picture). Compared to other chicken rice I ever eaten in KK or KL, this classic cooking is superb with great taste as no excess flavouring or addition of additives are added into this healthy dish !

An ordinary char kuey teow with an egg and keropok. You can order lady portions too which is much smaller and at a cheaper price
This popiah was adapted from Kuching in their serving style, great taste with lots of original flavouring.
Wishbone Chicken Rice
Their signature chicken rice is served with a 3 spiced rice cooked in chicken stock, a plate of steamed bonesless chicken, a bowl of chicken soup, and most importantly their 3 different types of Brunei sauce.
Special Brunei Sauce
They claimed that their secret sauce is from Brunei, never miss tasting each of this sauce with your rice:
- Ginger sauce
- Chili sauce
- Hainan soy sauce
Banana Fritters & Gula Melaka Ice Cream
A delicious fried banana fritters which was cooked perfectly and was crispy to bite. However, the gula melaka ice cream was too sweet for us.
Do drop by this place to taste back this classic chicken rice was has been the talk of the town since decades ago !
